Here's your chance to see where it all began (and what's been changed)!

A fairly detailed pencil sketch of Spice Ming, drawn while still fleshing out the character.  I don't know whether or not Des's version of Spice smokes, since she hasn't drawn her in any comic strips yet (that I know of, anyway).  I used to render detailed pencil sketches as a mid-point for completing a picture.  Technically, I drew the damn picture three times.  Once as a rough sketch, once as a detailed pencil sketch, then finally as the colored version.  I have no idea why I did that.  ~JMH
Now we arrive at the color version of the aforementioned image.  For some reason, I always imaged Spice wearing sexy, tight-fitting clothing, usually in a dark green color.  I guess Des put her own interpretation of this into her character redesign, since Spice now seems quite fond of dominatrix wear and tight-fitting leather.  I have no idea if it's dark green, though.  ~JMH
And now, Spice's total polar opposite, Sugar Ming.  Although they are twins, I thought it important to make them quite different from one another, even when just doing the pencil sketches.  I always imagined Sugar as a fun-loving individual who usually wears clothes that are comfortable, if not necessarily the most stylish.  ~JMH
Another color version of a pencil sketch, this time starring Sugar.  As you may notice, I was still working on my blending techniques at the time this picture was colored.  The different colors don't quite seem to flow into one another as smoothly as I can render them nowadays.  The one thing that always bugged me about this picture was the placement of Sugar's tail.  It's too low, and appears to be coming out of her ass, instead of being attached above it.  ~JMH
The only surviving color picture of Trigger Malone, it still serves as a reminder that I still had a lot of work and practice ahead of me if I wanted to get better.  While not necessarily bad, per se, I can say with absolute certainty that Des's version of Trigger far surpasses my earlier attempts.  The colors are too grainy, too.  Thankfully, I eventually figured out how to get those damn pencils to work in my favor!  ~JMH
A very early concept picture, showing Viper with two sexy vixens (who later became Dixie and Trixie Grant).  The building in the background is Viper's nightclub, and I think it still has the same shape and design as my initial concept drawings.  I don't think it's located in the middle of a friggin' field, though.  I'm pretty sure Des saw fit to change that.  ~JMH
A full-color (if not exactly smoothly-rendered) drawing of Viper, in his trademark Zoot suit.  Desiree has made the character noticeably taller than my earlier rendition.  I have no idea why I decided to put him in a Zoot suit.  It might be because I thought it'd be amusing to have the waistline appear to be somewhere near the "normal" location for a waist (the pants of a Zoot suit came up to the middle of the chest.  In this image, they still do, but since his body is so long, it doesn't look out of place).  ~JMH
Worthington the third, egotistical snob that he is, in all his vain glory.  At one point, he actually had a wife named Regina (also a real bitch), but it was decided to leave his marital status a mystery (as well as his sexual orientation).  I have no idea how this guy came into his money, whether it was earned or handed down.  Maybe it's best to leave that to speculation as well, huh?  ~JMH
An inked picture of the (now cancelled) lead human character, Reed, and the love of his life, a 1968 Cadillac Calais.  Reed was, for all intents and purposes, me, just as his car was mine as well.  As a teenager, I owned a huge 1968 Caddy and spent every dollar on it, repairing whatever had to be fixed on an almost-weekly basis.  My friends all thought I was off the deep end, talking to the car whenever I couldn't fix something (just like in the old comic elsewhere on this site).  Fact was, I'd gone off the deep end years earlier!  ~JMH
This picture originally measured 11 inches by 17 inches, and was intended to be turned into a transfer, and worn on the back of a t-shirt.  The address on the picture is totally bogus, but the phone number spells out "cat cunt".  As you can see, I never got around to finishing the picture.  I think I was unhappy with the results of my coloring, and I simply lost interest in the picture.  I liked Sugar's pose so much, I reused it in this image..  ~JMH
